On Jan. 13, 2021, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) held a video symposium with entrepreneurs on the economic situation. Gao Yunlong, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of ACFIC, presided over the symposium and delivered a speech. The symposium was attended by Huang Rong and Li Zhaoqian, the full-time vice chairmen of ACFIC. Nine private entrepreneurs introduced the development situation and problems of their enterprises and industries, and put forward their opinions and suggestions in the light of the current economic situation. These entrepreneurs include Li Shufu, vice chairman of ACFIC and chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd., Zheng Yuewen, vice chairman of ACFIC and chairman of the board of directors of Creat Group Corporation, Shen Bin, vice president of All-China Chamber of Industry and Commerce (ACCIC) and president of Jiangsu Shagang Group Co., Ltd., Liu Yonghao, chairman of the Presidium of the Committee of Famous Enterprises of ACFIC and chairman of New Hope Group, Zhong Baoshen, chairman of Longi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Chen Zhilie, chairman of EVOC Group, Wang Xiaolan, president of Time Group Inc., Wang Lei, chairman of Jiangsu Jindun Detection Technology Co., Ltd., and Xi Zhongping, chairman of Tiantai Langge Building Materials Technology Co., Ltd.
During the symposium, Gao Yunlong interacted with entrepreneurs from time to time in a lively atmosphere. After listening to the private entrepreneurs, Gao made a concluding speech. He affirmed the entrepreneurs’ opinions, saying that their views were very profound, their understanding of the development of their respective industries and fields were insightful, and their suggestions were very practical. Gao asked the relevant departments of the ACFIC to conduct an in-depth research on the representative issues and targeted opinions and suggestions put forward by the enterprises and make a good report on the situation.
Finally, Gao hoped that private enterprises could make efforts in the following four aspects:
First, they should recognize both opportunities and challenges. Although the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, the current situation is on our side. On the whole, opportunities still outweigh challenges. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council have been committed to continuously optimizing the business environment and formulating policies to support the development of enterprises, all of which are creating better conditions for their development. Private enterprises should be more confident, adhere to viewing issues from a comprehensive, dialectical and long-term perspective, and seek for new opportunities in order to make more achievements in the new development stage while paving for a new development pattern.
Second, they should coordinate development and security. Gao stressed that they need to adhere to worst-case scenario thinking, and improve risk awareness. In thinking and planning for the development of their businesses, private entrepreneurs should remain sober when the economic situation is in good shape and keep calm when they encounter economic hardship. While staying mindful of the potential danger, they need to adhere to new concepts of development and be ready to deal with ever more complex and difficult situations.
Third, they should give consideration to both interests and morality. Gao said that the relationship between interests and morality should be properly handled and the scientific connotation of common prosperity should be accurately understood. In the new stage of development, common prosperity is not only an economic issue but also a major political issue. China’s private entrepreneurs should consider problems from the overall perspective of social development and plan the development of their enterprises with the aim of promoting social harmony and improving people’s living standards. They should be loyal to the Party, follow the Party’s instructions, improve political awareness, take the initiative to shoulder the historical responsibility of achieving common prosperity by helping those who have yet be rich, and make contributions to the modernization featuring common prosperity.
Fourth, they need to uphold integrity and continue to innovate. Only by adhering to integrity can we ensure that innovation is truly for the realization of people's needs for a better life; only by keeping innovating can we better adhere to integrity. Companies, no matter large and strong or small but vigorous, must have a clear sense of innovation boundaries and stick to the principle of putting investment on industries that promote the growth of the productive forces in a socialist society, increase the overall strength of the socialist state and raise living standards, so as to achieve effective investment and promote economic and social development.
Comrades in charge of the research office and economic department of the ACFIC also attended the symposium.
