Gao Yunlong met with TGCC chairman Lai Cheng I

Gao Yunlong, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) met with Lai Cheng I, chairman of Taiwan General Chamber of Commerce (TGCC), in Beijing on June 16, 2019.

Gao extended welcome to Lai’s delegation while reviewing President Xi Jinping’s speech at the gathering marking 40th anniversary of Message to Compatriots in Taiwan, where President Xi proposed to deepen cross- straits integrated development, institutionalize economic cooperation, realize actual connection in all necessary fields, and build common market for the two sides so as to strengthen Chinese economy.

The mainland has a complete industrial chain, a complete industrial system and a sound investment environment, while accelerating the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy to foster new growth drivers. Given the present economic fraction between the United States and China, mainland enterprises have sped up scientific research and investment to promote industrial transformation and upgrading.

Gao expressed welcome towards Taiwan entrepreneurs to share the development opportunities on the mainland, during which they may play well the role of bridge on mainland investment and technology with cross-straits resources to join in important development programs including the Belt and Road construction, concerted development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and the Yangtze River economic belt, with the new development conception and preferential policies.

He introduced to Lai that the ACFIC is one of the biggest business associations in China, which adheres to the principle of “two sides of the Taiwan straits are one family”. The ACFIC had been committed to promote business cooperation between mainland and Taiwan, and would like to strengthen communication and cooperation with Taiwan business chambers including the TGCC.

He hoped that the TGCC would continue playing its positive influence and appeal in Taiwan to enhance young entrepreneurs friendly exchange cross the straits, and to contribute to the peaceful development and common rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Lai Cheng I said that the TGCC had kept s good relationship with the ACFIC with frequent interactions.

He said the mainland had continue releasing preferential policies to Taiwan. The “31-point measures” announced last year, in particular, had reassured Taiwan businesses since many of the measures were expected by Taiwan enterprises and entrepreneurs.

President Xi Jinping’s speech was a strong encouragement for Taiwan business and brought confidence for them to development and take roots in mainland, said Lai.

As the biggest business chamber in Taiwan, the TGCC has more than 1430,000 member corporations and 124 professional business associations. They hoped to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the ACFIC and promote cross-straits communication and win-win cooperation together.

People from the communication and membership departments of ACFIC and the economic bureau of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council attended the meeting.
