Liangshan Hosts “10,000 Enterprises Assist 10,000 Villages” Symposium

United Front Work Vice Minister and ACFIC CPC Secretary Xu Lejiang urged various levels of Federations of Industry and Commerce to recognize the complexity and laboriousness of poverty alleviation in extremely poor areas, and employ their elite force to organize and guide enterprises to assist those areas to meet their poverty eradication targets as scheduled.

“Private enterprises’ participation in poverty alleviation in extremely poor areas is a natural growth of the Guangcai Spirit which upholds the principles and practices of getting rich but not forgetting the sources of their fortune and striving for greater progress; balancing profit with “yi” (acts of kindness, bravery and generosity) and placing “yi” first; and helping those in danger and difficulty, and achieving common prosperity”, Xu said at the Symposium on Guiding the 10,000 Enterprises Assist 10,000 Villages Program to Gravitate Towards the Extremely Poor Areas of West China in the Liang Mountain Yi Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on August 2.   

“Their participation has also made up for the inadequacy of China’s social poverty alleviation endeavors and created fine opportunity for business expansion and supply-side structural reform,” he said. 

Xu stressed the importance of clarifying the location, population, targets and standards of poverty alleviation in extremely poor areas, as well as their resources, inherent characters and real situations, and providing guidance to enterprises so that they can roll out industrial cooperation, job creation or public charity projects accordingly.

He called for stepping up reform in Federations of Industry and commerce to facilitate innovation of poverty alleviation in extremely poor areas, and respect and inspire innovation by entrepreneurs.

He said the targeted poverty alleviation strategy must be given top consideration as economic development in extremely poor areas gets a boost, and the mechanism of mobilizing the poor population must be underlined and applied in all industrial projects, particularly those for poverty alleviation, while public benefit donation projects must target the extremely poor population.  

Xu also stressed the significance of tapping the role of non-native COCs, strengthening policy support service, and cultivating and publicizing good models and practices of poverty alleviation, as well as tapping the existing leading group mechanism of the 10,000 Enterprises Assist 10,000 Villages Program, in the effort by FICs to attract, organize and assist enterprises, especially those from East China, to participate in poverty alleviation in extremely poor areas in West China.
